I have a 15 month old who started to talk now but for most of the time, no one really understand what he trying to say. We use mLaH where I only speak Cantonese to him and my husband speaks only Mandarin. But since my husband does not understand Cantonese, we communicate in Mandarin exclusively at home but we live in the states and the only exposure to English is watching TV or going to church.

But just recently when my son begins to talk more, I realized that he understand more Cantonese than Mandarin (probably because my mom speaks Cantonese to him when caring for him during the daytime) and sometimes, my son will intentionally say another word or say something that I completely no clue. I'm not sure if this is normal or he is just having too much fun and tries to create a new language himself?
