In these olympics, everybody is a winner! There will be OLYMPIC MEDALS (a $1 fuscia feathered Barbie pencil) for all hard-working athletes. My children now know they are "working" for that pencil. In order to get it they have to respond only in French (and if they can't say what they want to say, they have to repeat it after me).  We are working for a zillion short term (cheap) rewards at my house... those are our olympic medals.

Sheilagh,

Thank you for your kind words in reply to my post. I've been reading your postings and I loved your idea of the flashcards. We have the BBC Muzzy for my son and it did come with some great flashcards but I never even thought of making some of my own for the other vocabulary we work on. (I may need them more than him, he learns it all so easily!) That seems like an idea that has no limit on its applications. Thanks so much.

No worries, Sylvia!

That's why I love this site: I get so many good ideas from the other parents.

Talk to you soon ..... but in what language?  ; )      ~s

The olympics went really well at our house -- well, at least for some of us.  Remember that we were competing for fuscia feathers (stuck all over a $1 Walmart pencil) and not just gold, silver and bronze.

Both children tied for gold (based on progress made and effort put in). Naughty mother got disqualified (for resorting to English just way too many times when exhausted) and alas won't get any medals at all, but will get TARRED AND FEATHERED (fuscia feathers) instead!  Was proud of my 4 year old referee who kept yelling, "parle francais, mamman!"

So wonderful to read about everybody else's olympics!
