Hi there,

We currently speak English to our three-year-old. She is exposed to German once a week when she spends the day with her grandmother (my German mother), and we'be always had the rule that I speak only German to her when my mother is around. Her comprehension is very good, but she always replied in English.

I have just had another baby, and am considering switching to speaking only German at home (but keeping the 'family' language as English - my husband dies not speak German).

Is it too late to make this transition? Will my daughter be very confused by my new rules? And what would we do about books, etc (most of our bold are in English)? Or would I be better off continuing as before and exposing her to more German through playgroups, nannies etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
